2012 Phenomenon

I don't mean to be an alarmist but while watching non news programs local and national for the past week has made me wonder... were the Mayans right?

A New Age interpretation of this transition posits that, during this time, the planet and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era.[3] Conversely, some believe that the 2012 date marks the beginning of an apocalypse. Source: Wikipedia
May that year be not be the year of doom but as rather as a shift in consciousness. We can only pray and do our duty by starting at home, applying the ways on how we could best help global warming from beating our world down.

It's so hard most of the time though when we get struck by calamity after calamity. In a modern age where people should know better than to kill each other through wars, crimes and polluting our environment, we still don't learn and worst, most doesn't care.

Terrorism
War for business
Biological Warfare
Famine
Typhoons
Tsunamis
Earthquakes
Nuclear weapons

Last week our beloved Philippines was hit with the most devastating typhoon in the history but despite all that God is still good because it has brought out mostly the best in people which is what we call "Bayanihan". Rich and poor, young and old, Filipinos and citizens of all over the world has extended their heart and helping hand to the victims. We must give accolade to real life heroes such as 18 year old Muelmar who saves 30 and losing his own life in the process and the judge on jet ski that saves a hundred but most of all we should give accolade to the volunteers, to the military, AFP and marine personnels who braved the flood to save lives; to the private companies who donated millions in cash and in kind; to the television networks and their crews for cutting down their regular programing and focusing on asking for donations and going to places that needed help, for the OFW's all over the world who immediately took action, solicited and sent help.

We are not done yet. There are still a lot of things to do. People to feed. Houses to rebuild. Pets and other animals to find and give shelter to. Rivers and canals to clean up.

According to Oxfam expert, although IMHO, we don't need an expert to know that this tragedy happened because of our own doing. Throwing garbage without second thoughts if it will clog our rivers and canals, we used materials and doesnt care if it is environment friendly, we drive to short distances even when we can walk. We become so complacent and this is nature's way of awakening us.

We have to learn from this. We are now given another chance. God and mother nature has given us another chance. Couple of days ago, it was announced that not one but two storm is on the way to the Philippines following Ondoy but last night, we saw this:
Our chance to learn and rebuild. To shift our consciousness for the better. The 2 typhoons are moving away from the Philippine are of responsibility. Although that is great news, I also hope that it won't hit the other countries and just disappear and if it didn't we should pray that it won't be catastrophic. Source

Before heading off from work today, I saw from the news another devastating rude awakening from nature. An earthquake in the South Pacific and hurled a four massive tsunami at American Samoa, flattening villages, leaving 82 dead and dozens missing.

Another country and so many people needs our prayers

As citizens of the world, it is time to put down arms, stop the blame game and take action to help, to make this world a better place and to pray, irregardless of our religious beliefs. It is time to unite.

OFW's In Kuwait:Here is How We Can Help The Victims of Tropical Storm Ondoy

Dear Kababayan’s in Kuwait,

As we are all aware by now, our motherland, the Philippines was struck by a historic typhoon last September 26, 2009 putting over 26 provinces under a state of calamity. As of September 28, 2009 the rising death tolls already reached 140 and there are people still missing and injured people in need of medical attention. The gravity of this disaster is prevalent all over the news and networking sites.

We are asking for your kind support in making sure that we provide immediate relief to the victims by donating in cash/ monetary. Monetary because as we all know it takes 45 to 60 days for a balikbayan box to reach the Philippines from here. Also, Red Cross is discouraging donation of old clothes as they have enough to go around.

These Filipinos were evacuated and displaced with the number of casualties ever growing to proportions unheard of in Metro Manila with whole towns engulfed by the floodwaters in mere hours. The onrushing water spared none. Both affluent and poor families displaced leaving whole communities in chaos and untold amounts of property damage.

With around 600 thousand of Filipino here in Kuwait, we want to ensure that our donations are guaranteed to go directly to the people and communities in dire need.

That is why, after pooling all our resources we are going to send it to 2 best helping center that we know:

Philippine National Red Cross
ABS – CBN Sagip Kapamilya

Everyone will be given a copy of the receipt and a heartful of thank you’s once it is sent. We are hoping to send it all by next week.

For inquiries and good deeds, kindly leave a message below and I will get back to you as soon as possible or contact Marissa Marquez Princeton # 66352910 and Lino Rosete # 66351100 of K Climb.

Thank you very much for all your support and let us once again relive the spirit of bayanihan and together let us try all our efforts to ensure that our families and friends get the support that our kababayans needs badly back home.

Kindly spread the word around your friends, family and colleagues.

Maraming maraming Salamat po!

Sincerely,

Concerned OFW's of Kuwait

Autumn Wish List

Books are love. It's the only thing I would shell my moolah on without feeling an ounce of guilt. Like ever.

Here in Kuwait, books are aplenty but good prices aren't. Virgin is uber expensive and so is Jarir. Thankfully, I found books in True Value! I shall post about it soon.

Anyway, for this fall - these are my wish list to tide me over till Christmas =)

The only Dan Brown book I don't have.

Coz I follow the whole Scarpetta books and she kicks ass.

A friend introduced me to JP and AX, from then on I'm hooked!

Coz I have to have all of Mitch Albom's books.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is for my sistered.

We're planning a trip to Malaysia and it houses the biggest Borders Bookstore in the world (or at least that's what google says) so YEY!

A comprehensive listing of all the ways we can help victims of Ondoy aftermath.

Yesterday, the Philippines was hit by the worst typhoon in the history of all typhoons that visits the country every year.

The whole Metro Manila area is submerged in water and according to the news, within 24 hours, the country has received 1 month worth of rain fall.

Friends in the Philippines updates those who are in abroad through Facebook and Twitter. Youtube videos of the floodings and scenarios are aplenty. Flickr have gruesome photos of submerged houses and cars.

Let us all pray for the safety of everyone and for the guidance to get up and survive this calamity.

To those who are able and would like to help, below is the link where a list of all the ways that you can help is listed.
